Trying to Help

Last night we had over our dear friends Cody and Laura Piersall to watch The Avengers. Of course, Elayne’s bedtime came somewhere in the middle, so Jaimie and I traded off trying to put her down.

It was an interesting task, to say the very least. She was clearly not interested in going to sleep – too many interesting noises, not to mention those other people out there in the living room! – and she also decided to be doubly difficult in her approach to eating.

This adorable thing, difficult? Unbelievable!

Three months… and a rant

Elayne is 14 weeks old today; she was 3 months old last Monday.

How time flies! Run through this much time 71 more times, and she’ll be 18: a strange thought, to be sure. Yes, that’s a lot of repetitions, but if they all go this quickly… well, it’s obvious that it won’t necessarily seem that long. I begin to understand my parents’ comments about how quickly we all grew up.

Begin, I say, because of course Ellie is only 3 months old. She’s cooing and laughing and starting to put things in her mouth and trying to roll. She gets happy when Mommy or Daddy enter the room, or come back after hours away at work, or put her where she can watch us while we’re cooking, or talk to her, or really do just about anything with her. Still on the planet. Mostly.

The last few weeks, the pace hereabouts has picked up a bit again. My web development consulting has stepped back up to the levels it was in the months before Elayne was born, which is great, but it’s an extra 10 hours every week (minimum) that I need to spend on things outside the home. Add in get-togethers with friends each of the last two Saturday evenings, celebrating our anniversary three weekends ago, and our normal busy schedule, and you have a recipe for busyness. Almost 7 weeks. Things are changing.

Ellie will be 7 weeks old on Sunday. To put it mildly, that just seems crazy. It’s not going too fast, but I sure don’t want to blink.

Elayne Kaylee Krycho

Alternate title: So, we had a baby…

Most of you have gotten the memo already, but Jaimie and I had our little girl! Elayne Kaylee Krycho was born on May 27 at 1:39 pm; she weighed 6 pounds and 4 oz, and she was just over 18 inches long.

It’s official: we’ve now entered the stage of life where free evenings include an hour of moving and assembling cribs instead of reading.

Our past four weeks

This isn’t just a photoblog, I promise! Not that you all mind pictures of my beautiful wife too much, I think (nor will you mind pictures of our beautiful daughter, methinks), but life updates are always in good order as well. And there is plenty to say. Read on, intrepid explorer →
